One of Pennsylvania hockey's most beloved traditions returned to the ice on Sunday with the annual Hershey Bears Teddy Bear Toss Game.
The Bears are currently facing the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at the Hershey Giant Center as of 5:25 p.m., but the tossing of stuffed animals came at the team's first goal of the game. The Teddy Bear Toss is celebrated by fans young and old as an opportunity to give back.
In 2023, the Bears broke a world record by collecting a whopping 67,309 plush toys for the Hershey Cares Initiative. The donations are then collected and distributed among 35 local organizations. The team has collected an estimated 389,508 toys since the tradition began back in 2001.
The goal that got the festivities started was made by right-wing Bogdan Trineyev, and several team members couldn't help but jump into the mountain of stuffed animals as well. Watch the video of this year's toss courtesy of PennLive.com.
There's no word yet on whether this year's toss is another record-breaker, but from the video, it looks like many kids will be made happy very soon.
The Hershey Bears are currently trailing behind the Phantoms 2-1.
